I live up a rocky dirt road that keeps the company of an emerald river by its side. It is clearly a place that has been kissed by Grandmother Earth, and is now seeped in her magic. Misty mornings are the time of spirit animals, when flocks of white birds float up and down the river and a family of wild white horses wades through the water. There are ancient trees that might take four of us joining hands to encircle their trunks, with weathered, wrinkled branches draped in moss. I stop on my morning walks to lean my back on these huge creatures, looking out at the green rippling river, shoes kicked off to feel the coolness of the soil’s moisture beneath me.
