We invite you to be a part of this life enhancing experience for self growth and transformation -- an immersion into yoga and embodiment as a way of life.
This unique teacher training provides a solid foundation in the fundamentals of hatha yoga and vinyasa flow yoga, fused with principals of expressive healing arts, contemplative movement practice, and somatic psychology. Learn new flow sequences and philosophies for combining yoga with expressive dance, as well as initiation into the tools for guiding students in the arts of living a life well lived; bridging heaven and earth as one in this unique creative exploration.
We invite you to open up and receive the vital creative life force (shakti) which naturally wants to move through us. Immerse yourself in a new branch of the evolution of yoga and tantra, where the tradition of vinyasa meets the playful expression of creative life force.
Danyasa™ Yoga weaves the masculine roots of yoga with the feminine grace of ecstatic expression into blissful union. Let Danyasa take you past the confines of the mat and into the space around you, expressing and living your inner truth, awareness and bliss. Learn how to infuse your yoga into every aspect of your life, calling in artistic mastery and rootedness in your own uncompromising being.
Sofiah and Larry commit to helping each participant find their own authentic voice and teaching style with mindfulness, confidence and skill. This training will provide students with the foundation to teach a Vinyasa Flow class in their own unique style, inspired by the essence of Danyasa™ and the evolution of yoga on and off the mat. The ultimate goal of this training is to provide you with tools for Embodiment, Empowerment and Expression as a yoga teacher and as as student of life.
Sofiah Thom believes that every person possesses an inner artist -- a unique, individual creative spark that just needs to be allowed or inspired to show itself. Sofiah's mission lies in nurturing this creative spark in others with the aim to inspire them to live to their fullest creative potential. Simply being in Sofiah's presence one feels her grace, strength and palpable sensuality as she invites you to get out of your head and into your body. For it is through your body that you come to access the innate power and creativity that lies within you, while providing the space for your life force to move freely through you and beyond.
As a daughter of healers with a degree in Dance Therapy from Naropa University, studies at the Tamalpa Institute in Expressive Healing Arts, and myriad trainings in bodywork, yoga and dance, Sofiah's deep understanding of the body and somatics shines through her work. Sofiah fuses dance, yoga, breath work, expressive healing arts and Tantric Buddhism into her Healing Arts and Yoga. Her self-developed yoga and dance based movement modalities - Bamboo Yoga, Danyasa™ Yoga, and Graceful Warrior Trainings - provide vehicles for self discovery and transformation as well as opportunities to excercise and get your sweat on.
Sofiah developed Bamboo Yoga as a vinyasa flow fusion that bridges traditional vinyasa flow yoga and Danyasa™ Yoga. Bamboo Yoga incorporates the form of a vinyasa flow class while weaving in expressive movement and a greater sense of freedom to listen to one's inner teacher. Bamboo Yoga incorporates Sofiah's Bamboo Principles of Alignment, which emphasize flexibility, strength, rootedness and openness as a means to awaken the fullest expression of who you are.
Danyasa™ Yoga was created by Sofiah as a fusion of Bamboo Yoga and Expressive Dance in a journey to embody the graceful warrior and free your creative potential. Connect with your breath, body and creative spirit as you follow Sofiah's hypnotic voice through a flowing fusion of yoga asanas and expressive movement whilst actively using your imagination and creativity to literally dance your edge and paint your visions in a dreamscape with your body. Learn to listen to your body as the inner teacher, giving yourself permission to follow kinesthetic bliss as the impetus for your movements. Ignite your passion, free your mind and embody grace.

Asana: Hatha Vinyasa Flow, Bamboo Yoga and Danyasa™ Practice and Teaching Methodology
We practice yoga asana every morning after meditation: Larry offers a traditional Hatha Vinyasa Flow, Sofiah offers Bamboo Yoga, her style of a Vinyasa Flow Fusion and of course Danyasa Yoga which takes your yoga off the mat and into a more expressive yoga journey. Consistent practice helps us internalize the sequences and the essence of the Flows. We intensify our daily practice of Hatha Flow, Bamboo Yoga™ and Danyasa™ Yoga with workshops on the postures, the art of teaching each sequence as well as the essence of moving from uniform yoga flow into a more self expressed Danyasa™ Yoga practice.
Pranayama
We begin our day on the beach or in the studio at sunrise with Pranayama (breathing techniques) and Meditation to still and purify the mind. Pranayama consists of rounds of Kapalabati, 'shining skull breath' and Anuloma Viloma, alternate nostril breathing. We introduce practitioners to additional yogic breathing exercises to cleanse the body, mind, and spirit during our morning meditation and asana practice.
Meditation
Every morning after our Pranayama practice, we guide you in either sitting Meditation to cultivate a one-pointed focus of the mind or movement meditation to connect with and move from inner landscape as you connect and respond to the natural enviroment and allow your essence to shine.
Expressive Healing Arts
Sofiah will offer you tools from her eclectic background and perspective in Yoga as a powerful healing art and the importance of self empowerment through expression, as she guides you through exercises in creative writing, self portrait drawings and expressive movement.
Anatomy and Physiology for Yoga Teachers
As teachers of body awareness and movement, it is important to understand anatomy and the foundations of how the human body moves and functions.
